Project Overview
OVERVIEW
Water security is critical to St Lucia’s sustainable growth. Water security in St. Lucia is particularly pressing due to the island's dependence on surface water from rivers and streams. Additionally, the island's water infrastructure is aging, with many systems over 40 years old, leading to frequent disruptions and inefficiencies. Heavy rainfall also causes flooding, which damages water sources and reduces water production due to high turbidity and clogged intakes. Conversely, prolonged droughts deplete natural water sources, highlighting the need for improved water storage and management practices.
This project seeks to undertake rehabilitation, and upgrade works at the Theobalds Water Supply System, which provides potable water to just over 40,000 residential and commercial customers from Millet to Cap Estate. The project includes:
• Rehabilitating and restoring the Theobalds Water Treat Plant (TWTP) to its original design capacity of 10.8 million gallons/day; and reducing CO2 emissions and increasing operating efficiency via the installation of a solar PV system and more energy efficient automated pumps.
• Public education and training to promote rainwater harvesting in communities served by the TWTP.
