Ancillary Enhancement Measures for the Melville Hall Airport

Project Overview

OVERVIEW

Inadequate air access has been identified as one of the most constraining factors to Dominica’s economic development directly impacting exports of fresh produce, arrivals by stay-over tourists, and Dominica’s attractiveness to foreign direct investment. In 2005, the country faced the threat of downgrade from a Category 4 to a Category 3 airport due to non-compliance with International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) standards.

The project fits within a wider US$32 m airport enhancement programme, financed by the Government of the Commonwealth of Dominica (GOCD) and various partners, towards improving air accessibility for enhanced movement of people, goods and services through increased airlift capacity into and out of Dominica. The project contributes to the procurement of equipment required under the enhancement programme including navigational aid equipment, generator, and lighting systems.
