Establish the Institutional Framework to Manage the Village Tourism Initiative

Project Overview

OVERVIEW

Tourism is responsible for more than 50% of export receipts and accounts for more than Saint Lucia’s 20% of GDP. To reduce dependence on tourism and vulnerability to economic shocks, the country is simultaneously strengthening the export capacity of other sectors (e.g., manufacturing, agriculture, and services); and diversifying within tourism, including via the development of village or community-based tourism.

The project engages consultants to support the Government of St Lucia (GOSL) with:
• the design of its village tourism product; and the elaboration of the environment – physical infrastructure, institutional and legislative framework, quality assurance system, credit, business and technical advisory services - required to successfully deliver the product.
• assessing baseline readiness and developing a plan to bring the capacity of participating enterprises in line with the St Lucia brand of village tourism.
• Improving the country’s readiness to launch its village tourism product.
