OVERVIEW
The CARICOM Development Fund has been instrumental in fostering cohesion in Dominica by supporting the implementation of the country’s sustainable development and climate resilience agenda. Over two project cycles, from Cycle 1 (2008-2015) to Cycle 2 (2016-2023), the CDF invested US$22.7 million in 7 strategic projects, aimed at creating a more enabling business environment for SMEs to thrive, create jobs and contribute to economic growth; and supporting the country’s energy transition.
Planned Results of CDF-Supported projects
- Support for MSMEs: Improving access to credit for 73 micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) to innovate, enhance productivity, and increase competitiveness.
- Institutional Strengthening: Strengthening of the Dominica Bureau of Standards and Dominica AID Bank to increase SMEs’ access to accredited laboratory testing services and affordable credit.
- Sectoral and National Competitiveness: An investment of US$18.5 million in targeted physical infrastructure (energy, transportation, tourism, agriculture, and business support), to boost the competitiveness of all key economic sectors.
- Renewable Energy: Supporting the construction of a 10 MW geothermal plant, which will lead to a 60% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions from energy generation.
