Project Overview
OVERVIEW
A 2010 baseline survey estimated that only 40% to 60% of cruise ship passengers disembarked at the post. This project contributes to the implementation of a 3-phase programme approved by the Government of Antigua and Barbuda in 2012 to:
• upgrade the cruise ship port at Heritage Quay
• improve the competitiveness of Antigua and Barbuda as a cruise ship destination
• improve visitor perception of port facilities and willingness to disembark; and visitor experience once they have disembarked.
The upgrade of the cruise ship port and surrounding areas includes:
• Establishing areas for parking and a transportation hub
• Improving safety and aesthetics of the waterfront
• Repairs to roads and pathways, restructuring of gutters and sidewalks throughout Lower St. John’s including installation of waste run-off collection areas
• Repairs and expansion of the immigration/customs arrival/departure booth
• Repairs and maintenance of the Cultural Centre
• Assessment of Heritage Quay Harbour to inform the development of the scope of work for the dredging the harbor to deeper depths
