Project Overview
OVERVIEW
Imports of fuel are a major item of foreign expenditure in most CARICOM Member States and increases in fuel prices and growing energy needs means that measures are needed to improve energy efficiencies as well as activate new energy sources.
Barriers to greater deployment and adoption of enhanced energy efficiency measures include:
• lack of information about the performance and costs of energy-efficient technologies.
• low priority given to energy efficiency investments.
• access to affordable financing to meet initial investment.
• energy subsidies or other distortions to the true cost of energy that reduces the motivation to reduce consumption.
Phase 1 of the project - Energy Management Diagnostic & Technical Audit – supports the conduct of energy audits for 12 manufacturers. Phase 2 - Energy Management Plan Development and Capacity Building – supports the preparation of Energy Management Plans based on the audits, and training of the management and staff of the participating enterprises to build capacity to implement the Energy Management Plan. Phase 3 – Project Implementation - provides partial grants, where required, to assist manufacturers with the implementation of the enterprise-level Energy Management Plans.
