Project Overview
OVERVIEW
Over the period July 2013-June 2014, the CDF financed the services of a consultant to improve the capacity of Ministry of International Trade, Industry, Commerce and Consumer Affairs (MITICCA) to establish new and implement existing trade agreements, including training MITICCA staff.
Over the period, the consultant was able to:
• Increase key public and private sector stakeholders’ understanding of the Brazil/Guyana/St. Kitts & Nevis Partial Scope Agreement.
• Increase compliance by St. Kitts and Nevis with obligations under existing trade agreements.
• Coordinate the activation of the National Trade Policy Advisory Committee.
• Coordinate the training of two MITICCA officers on trade policy.
• Commence support to the export of agro-processed goods to neighbouring islands based on the findings of the CDF-financed market study.
The two MITICCA officers, trained under the prior phase, departed the Ministry; and events in Brazil delayed the implementation of the schedule for the signing of the Agreement and negotiation of a protocol on trade preferences relevant to St Kitts and Nevis.
The project extends the consultant’s support to capacity building of MITTICA, including the implementation of the Partial Scope Agreement and country’s Manufacturing Development Strategy, and training of MITTICA staff.
