Project Overview
OVERVIEW
Consistent with the Government of St. Kitts and Nevis’ (GOSKN’s) economic diversification thrust, the Ministry of International Trade, Industry, Commerce and Consumer Affairs (MITICCA) is building its capacity to protect and further exploit existing and create new markets.
The Ministry secured donor resources to engage a consultant for a period of 2 years to assist the Ministry with developing the Brazilian market for exports from the manufacturing sector through the Brazil/Guyana/St. Kitts & Nevis Partial Scope Trade Agreement. This is parallel to the Ministry’s effort to develop new markets for agricultural products in neighboring islands.
The partial scope agreement was signed in 2012 but was not ratified until 2014 and limited the time over which the consultant could support the Ministry with the implementation of the Agreement.
The project finances the continued engagement of the consultant for a period of 1 year to support on and build the capacity of MITICCA to implement the Partial Scope Agreement; ensure compliance with and maximise the exploitation of existing agreements; and participate in the negotiation of new agreements.
