Equipping the National Centre for Testing Excellence (NCTE) and Staff Capacity Building

Project Overview

OVERVIEW

National Centre of Testing Excellence (NTCE), Dominica Bureau of Standards is an important actor in Dominica’s Business Ecosystem. It provides testing services on water and food products and support agro-processors producing for the export market.

The project finances the procurement and installation of equipment for the NTCE laboratories, and improvements to the laboratories’ ventilation system to increase the NCTE’s capacity to provide testing services to the private and public sectors.

NCTE comprises the Food and Environmental Microbiology Unit and the Chemistry Unit – which are both pursuing ISO 17025:2017 accreditation with the intention of becoming the first accredited conformity assessment testing laboratory in the Eastern Caribbean. The equipment procured and the upgrade of the ventilation system under the CDF-supported project are critical to satisfying the requirements for obtaining accreditation.

When accreditation is achieved, the NCTE will be able to offer laboratory testing services to sister OECS countries. Accreditation will enhance the reliability of test results generated by the laboratory and establish technical competency in the event of speculation and/or legitimacy issues.
