Argyle International Airport Photovoltaic Renewable Energy Project

Project Overview

OVERVIEW

The International Airport Development Company (IADC) has estimated AIA’s energy requirements at 930 kVA at startup and 2600 kVA when fully operational; and annual cost of electricity when fully operational at US$1.4 m. The Government of St Vincent and the Grenadines (GOSVG), via the IADC, has developed a plan for the phased transition to solar energy to power the AIA.

The project supports Phase 1 of AIA’s transition to solar energy and finances the procurement and installation of a 281 kVA solar photovoltaic system for lighting and cooling at AIA. This system is forecast to generate approximately 26% of AIA’s energy needs at start-up. The project is financed by GOSVG/IADC; CDF via resources provided by the Government of Turkey; and the Global Environment Facility Small Grants Programme.
