Project Overview
OVERVIEW
This project contributes to the implementation of Guyana's Agricultural and Infrastructural Development Programme (AIDP). The AIDP is aimed at improving the productivity of crop and livestock production systems and value chains, for which Guyana has comparative advantage; agripreneurs’ income and livelihoods; and food security at the national and regional level.
The project will benefit 4,300 agripreneurs, including approximately 1,700 women and youth. AIDP addresses the major constraints that currently limit productivity and includes:
(i) construction and equipping of an abattoir and processing facility - primarily for swine slaughter, preparation and processing.
(ii) establishing the infrastructure to enhance surveillance and reduce the incidence of the Carambola Fruit Fly.
(iii) construction of new and upgrading of existing facilities for the processing of honey, coconut waste, peanut, coffee and cocoa.
(iv) training of agripreneurs and extensionists; and delivery of technical assistance to agri-enterprises and sector associations.
(v) strengthening of programme execution capacity of the Agricultural Services Development Unit (ASDU) of the Ministry of Agriculture.
