Manta Island Resort Advances Clean Energy Goals with CRAF Technical Assistance

Stann Creek District

Manta Island Resort, a luxury private island destination off the coast of Belize, has taken a strategic step toward energy sustainability through support from the Credit Risk Abatement Facility (CRAF), implemented by the CARICOM Development Fund (CDF).

Through CRAF’s Technical Assistance Programme, the resort benefitted from an ASHRAE Level 2 Energy Audit, which assessed its energy performance, identified opportunities for operational efficiency, and recommended a 320-kW solar photovoltaic (PV) system tailored to its usage profile.

The audit revealed that air conditioning was the primary energy consumer, with significant potential for cost-saving improvements in HVAC, lighting, and water heating systems. A PV system of this scale, once implemented, would substantially reduce reliance on diesel generators and lower energy costs.

The Energy Audit was conducted by ESPC Energy Solutions Ltd., an accredited Energy Service Provider. The findings form the basis of a bankable proposal, which positions the resort to pursue financing and implement the recommended RE/EE interventions.

Manta Island Resort’s participation underscores how CRAF’s technical assistance activities are designed to help businesses develop viable, investment-ready clean energy projects, aligning operational goals with sustainability outcomes.
