OVERVIEW
The CDF’s engagement in Suriname during Cycle 2 focused on enhancing access to electricity for rural disadvantaged communities. This investment aligns with the country’s broader goals of improving infrastructure and boosting economic development in underserved regions.
Planned results of the CDF-supported Projects in Suriname
- Increased Power Generation Capacity: Installation of two hybrid solar power stations in 2 regions – Cajana (330 kW) and Calibi (360 kW), providing a sustainable source of energy to the 10 remote villages in these regions.
- Improved Energy Access: 1,906 residents across two regions and 10 rural villages benefit from a reliable electricity supply.
- Reduced Emissions: Reduction of fossil fuel consumption by 600,000 liters and emissions by 162 tons of CO2 annually.
