OVERVIEW
The CARICOM Development Fund (CDF) has played a pivotal role in supporting the Government of St Vincent and the Grenadines (GOSVG) in its pursuit of economic diversification and sustainable growth. CDF’s investment of US$18.9 million during Cycle 1 (2008-2015) and Cycle 2 (2016-2023) has contributed to the installation of air transportation and tourism infrastructure critical to economic growth and diversification.
Planned results of CDF-supported projects in St Vincent and the Grenadines
- Operational International Airport: Contributed to the construction of the Argyle International Airport (AIA), which is now fully operational and serving as a critical hub for international air travel and trade.
- Reduced Emissions and Airport Operating Cost: Installation of a 598-kW photovoltaic system at AIA to reduce power generation costs and decrease the airport’s carbon emissions.
- Increased Attractiveness as a Tourist Destination: Contributed to the construction of the Holiday Inn Express & Suites hotel at the Diamond Industrial Estate, strategically located near to the AIA, and leading to the addition of 93 new hotel rooms; and significantly increasing the country’s capacity to attract international airlines and accommodate international visitors.
