OVERVIEW
The CARICOM Development Fund (CDF) has partnered closely with the Government of St Kitts and Nevis in cohesion building by creating a more enabling environment for SMEs in the agriculture, tourism and other high-potential sectors. During Cycle 1 (2008-2015) and Cycle 2 (2016-2023), the CDF invested US$8.9 million to support a range of projects.
Planned Results of CDF projects in St Kitts and Nevis
- Reduced Vulnerability to Drought: Establishing irrigation infrastructure at Indian Castle Estate; and reducing the possibility of crop and income loss due to drought conditions made more likely by more extreme weather events.
- Strengthened Trade Capacity: Training and hands-on support to the Ministry of Trade and Industry to enhance its capacity to administer trade agreements and facilitate increased export.
- Increased Access to Credit: Increasing 100 MSMEs’ access to credit to finance innovation and growth initiatives through CDF lines of credit executed by the St Kitts and Nevis Development Bank.
- Upgraded Tourism Sector Infrastructure: Upgrading physical infrastructure at South Frigate Bay to enhance visitor/tourist experience; improve operating conditions for the 13 onsite MSMEs; and contribute to the growth of Frigate Bay as a business and tourism hub.
