OVERVIEW
The CARICOM Development Fund (CDF) has been instrumental in fostering cohesion building in Grenada by supporting the strengthening of public sector agencies that provide critical support to SMEs, and development of agri-entrepreneurs to boost youth employment and expand agriculture sector output. Over two project cycles—from Cycle 1 (2008-2015) to Cycle 2 (2016-2023)—the CDF invested US$13.5 million in 10 targeted projects.
Planned Results of CDF-Supported projects in Grenada
- Business Planning Capacity: Delivering business planning training to 1,272 SMEs towards improving the quality of business plans and readiness to access finance for innovation and growth initiatives.
- Technical Assistance to Improve Competitiveness: Technical advice to 130 SMEs, including 100 agri-entrepreneurs; and technical support to tourism-based SMEs with improving energy management and the transition to renewable energy.
- Access to Credit: Providing affordable credit to 215 MSMEs to finance initiatives aimed at increasing innovation, productivity, and competitiveness.
- Strengthened Business Ecosystem: Strengthening of key institutions – Grenada Bureau of Standards, Grenada Development Bank, Customs and Excise Division, and Mirabeau Abattoir; and upgrading the Grenada Investment Development Corporation’s Industrial Park.
- Youth Engagement in Agriculture: Training 200 youths to improve local farms’ access to skilled agricultural workers.
- Agri-entrepreneurship Development: Training and proving support services to 100 youths and creating more enabling conditions for the launch new youth-owned agri-enterprises.
