OVERVIEW
In alignment with the CDF’s mission to address climate change impacts, which threaten to widen social and economic disparities, CDF contributed US$12.7 m to a US$56.2 project to address Barbados’ water scarcity. This initiative is co-financed by the Green Climate Fund (GCF), the Government of Barbados, and the CDF, with technical support provided by the Caribbean Community Climate Change Centre (CCCCC).
Planned results of the CDF-supported Projects in Barbados
- Reduced Water Scarcity: Enhancing access to water for 140,000 residents, vulnerable communities, the agricultural sector, and other productive industries.
- Strengthened Barbados Water Authority (BWA): Improving the BWA’s operational capacity, including upgrading operating procedures and providing staff training.
- Improved Water Management Technologies and Productivity: Implementing carbon-neutral water management technologies, equipment upgrade, and the installation of 1,000 kW of renewable energy generation capacity.
- Model for Wastewater Management: Improving understanding among Members States of climate resilient water and wastewater management practices.
