OVERVIEW

Between Cycle 1 (2008-2015) and Cycle 2 (2016-2023), the CARICOM Development Fund (CDF) allocated US$9.3 million towards financing projects focused on improving SME competitiveness, access to tertiary education, and climate resilience in Antigua and Barbuda. These projects -funded jointly by the CDF, the Government and Antigua and Barbuda and other partners -represent CDF’s commitment to collaboration in the financing of projects that are strategic to implementing Member States’ sustainable development agenda.

Planned Results of CDF-Supported projects
  • Tourism Sector Enhancement: Improving the infrastructure at the St. John’s Cruise Ship Terminal, benefiting both tourists and local business operators.
  • Education Infrastructure Upgrade: Enhancing the learning environment for 1,000 tertiary level students at the Antigua State College.
  • Agricultural Support: Improving access to critical support services for 300 farmers, including 75 women farmers.
  • Energy Resilience: Installation of a 719 kW hybrid energy generation plant in Barbuda, benefiting 1,500 residents, undergrounding of Barbuda’s electricity network, reducing CO2 emissions by 694,617 tons annually, and increasing Barbuda’s energy resilience.
  • SME Support: Increasing approximately 50 SMEs’ access to affordable credit to finance growth and support/create jobs.
