OVERVIEW
Through its investment of US$20.2 million in Cycles 1 and 2 and US$ 15 million to date in Cycle 3, the CDF is playing a significant role in enhancing the agricultural sector’s productivity, output and contribution to national and regional food security; and improving farmers’ livelihoods. CDF-supported projects improve farmers’ access to land for primary production and the drainage infrastructure; improve the physical infrastructure for agro-processing, recycling of waste, and pest surveillance and control; and strengthen the capacity of local agencies to provide critical support services.
Planned Results of CDF-supported Projects in Guyana
- Strengthened Capacity to Deliver Support Services: Upgrading the Ministry’s information management capacity; equipping local agencies with land preparation equipment; and training staff responsible for delivering extension services, managing processing facilities, and pest surveillance and control.
- Enhanced Access to Agricultural Land: Constructing/upgrading of 81 kilometers of roads and related bridges and improving access to 4,100 acres of agricultural land; and clearing of an additional 618 acres of land for cultivation.
- Improved Drainage and Irrigation and Reduced Vulnerability to Extreme Weather Events: 149 km of canals/drains rehabilitated or constructed; and 31 additional irrigation systems installed.
- Critical Sector Infrastructure Upgraded: Facilities upgraded/constructed for the processing of honey, coconut waste, peanut, coffee, and cocoa; the surveillance and control of the Carambola Fruit Fly; and for the slaughtering of pigs and pork processing.
- Improved Livelihoods and Empowered Communities: Improving the quality of life for 41,400 residents across 7 communities.
